Re: GOPHER and WorldWideWeb (WWW): funding info vehicles

Ken Buelow has noted several cons that accompany the trend
to using WWW sites for disseminating information via the
Internet. The major problem here is the low number of
users who have the necessary hardware to access WWW. WWW
access requires a much more substantial computer than does
Gopher. For practical purposes a 486 is needed. All of
our users with 286/386 machines with less than 2MB of
memory, don't use Windows and without Windows you can't use
WWW. Gopher on the other hand can be used easily with
older computers.
I hope that the Gopher network of sites remains healthy and
active for some time to come as it is unlikely we will be
able to update our installed base of micros very quickly.
cheers
