Indirect Cost Long Form Nancy K. Collins 29 Nov 1994 13:27 EST

We currently have approximately $15M in research, and have been on
the long form for several years. Currently there is just one person
responsible for preparing the workpapers and collecting data. We use
the CRIS (Comprehensive Rate Information System) from David M. Griffith
& Assoc. (708 564-9270) and utilize one of their staff to help us
complete the various reports required.

Information that is critical in this process is SPACE!! The University must
have a comprehensive data base in place to locate all space used for
research. A space survey must also be done in order to calculate how
many square feet of available space is used for research.

Another critical area is salary information. But for the most part, this can
be derived from the general ledger download of all expenditure data for
current funds.

One thing that has been a big help here is that the Plant manager has
kept separate data on all utility costs and can determine how much each
building uses for water, electricity, and gas.

We are currently using an on-campus rate of 44% of MTDC. We lost 10
points when the cap went into effect last year.

Hope this helps!
