OFFICE MEMO RE: Training Programs Date:11/16/94
As part of the downsizing Yale has been going through, all of the University
training programs have been eliminated. About two years ago, a group of us
from central admin offices, plus a couple of business managers, got together
and decided to create our own course. The format is three half days. The
topics include proposal preparation and post-award (non-financial)
administration (my section), financial administration of grants (from the
business managers' point of view), non-grant income (gifts, clinical trials,
etc.) and how to administer/spend these funds, plus some information about
compliance issues. The university has kindly agreed to reimburse us for
photocopying, otherwise there is no compensation. We pull in department
administrators from the business manager level on down, plus some folks from
central offices that are involved with these issues. It's been very
successful and the comments from attendees very positive. We've already
taught four --Sally Tremaine, Assistant Director, Grant and Contract
