Subject: RO1 Grant - Program Income
I have a faculty member who has an RO1 Grant which was extended for one
year without additional funds. As a result of this grant he has collected
data which would be useful to a pharmaceutical company in developing one of
its own protocols. The company has requested the p.i. to tabulate some of
these data in a specific way to benefit the preparation of the clinical
trial. In order to produce these tabulations the p.i. requires additional
manpower which will not be covered by the grant funds. The company is
willing to pay for the production of these tabulations. From your experience
out there would this be considered program income? Or in order to be
considered program income would the grant have to pay for the cost of providing
the people to do the work? Look forward to your feedback on this issue.
Many thanks.
Marjorie Forster
