We have an Americorps award and need to "enroll volunteers" who
will receive a living allowance. These volunteers
are specifically precluded from the status of "emplyee" by the
sponsor, but we are instructed to withhold taxes (remuneration
for services is mentioned in the director's instruction bible),
provide health benefits, and provide workmen's compensation.
Walks like an employee, quacks like an employee, but is not an
employee.
Have any of you met this special joy?
Needless to say my Personnel people are talking bad about me
again.
