The City University of New York has a contractually funded internal research
awards program which annually awards about 500 grants totally close to
three million dollars.  There is an annual competition among all the CUNY
schools, with review panels that include at least one outside reader.

External support to CUNY is FY 93 totalled approx. 128 million dollars
ranging from 2 million to a high of about 24 million over the 18 colleges.
