UCLA is in the midst of re-engineering its contract and grant management
and
 financial systems, with a goal of providing an integrated system for
departments, the Contract and Grant Office, and Extramural Fund Management.
 This system covers the "cradle-to-grave" process of proposal and award
management, and focuses on data entry at the point of origination (e.g.,
proposal information entered by departments) flowing forward to all other
parts of the system, automated routing and approvals, with on-line,
real-time data available to both central and departmental offices.

 Are there any institutions that have truly integrated systems in place?  We
would be particularly interested in schools that have a medical school, a
large volume of activity, and a diverse computing environment.  We are about
to start a new phase of our project, and would like to take advantage of the
ideas of others as we continue our development.
