Marquette University Committee on Research holds an annual competition. Full
time faculty members are able to apply for Summer Faculty Fellowships and/or
Regular Research Grants. SFF provide stipends a little bit higher than the NEH
summer fellowship level. (Stipend levels vary depending on the rank of the
faculty member.) RRGs provide funding in the $1,000 - $4,000 range for budget
items such as graduate assistance, travel, research supplies, etc. Computer
hardware and software is generally not eligible. The Committee awards between
15 -25 SFFs and between 10 - 20 RRGs each year.
In addition, we have several external grants that provide for small
subgrants such as BRSG, Center for International Studies, Multi-Cultural
Concerns etc.
New this year, thanks to an annonymous doner, is funding for "Research
Challenge Grants". These "seed" money for interdisciplanry research projects.
The Committee on Research funding started very small a little over 20 years
ago and has gradually grown to provide the current level of funding.
Hope this helps. Deborah A. Epps, Assistant Director for Grants and Contract
Management, Marquette University, Office of Research and Sponsored Programs.
