We have recently expanded our Grants Office from a part-time to a full-time
position and with the expansion has come some territorial questions.  I, being
the Grants Office, am located in the office of the Vice President and Dean of
Faculty (ie. Academic VP).  I am interested in where other grants offices are
situated and who the office reports to.
Our office has been set up to handle (pre-award) grants from public and private
sources, however our Advancement Office feels that they should control all
grants from Foundations.  I see some pretty clear reasons why these functions
should not be separate but what do other people think?  I'd like to know what
works for other colleges and universities.
If you'd like to reply to me, I'd be happy to compile the answers and report
back to the list.
