Funny you should ask that question.  We at Rutgers are in the process of
developing some rules/guidelines/a policy.... whatever it turns out to be.
Ann Stevens at Emory (a plug) is a guru in this area, and teaches an NCURA
workshop on the ownership and retention of data.

Interesting stuff, I think.  I'd be interested in hearing what other
universities have in effect.
