Information of research databases wanted.

I will know what kind of research databases (structure, database
management system... ) is in use in other countries.

The research database could include information about the research
finance, project information, specialist information,
project starting and ending times and other special information.
And also, how is the specialist database or information of
specialists included in it.

I know that some of such kind databases are made with TRIP, ORACLE or
maybe DBASE.
Are there databases which are built using SGML-standard.
Also commercial products are included to my survey.
