Greetings from Brisbane, Australia!
One of the things I like about this network is that it proves our
problems are similar no matter which side of the ocean we work on...
Re profiles,
The Office of Research at Queensland University of Technology (QUT)
produced a book last year "Access to Expertise" which included
information on the areas of interest of all academic - and some support
- staff of the University. The survey used to produce the book took
several months to process, and the book took several months with the
printer - of course, like the telephone directory, it was out of date
before it rolled off the presses!
We in Grant Administration find it useful to target individuals for
particular grants, the PR people find it helpful in referring those
"funny" enquiries to someone in a relevant area, but I don't think it
was ever intended for use/used by the academics in trying to set up
collaboration with other reseaarchers here. Mostly they know who they
work with and work with those they know...
We are making efforts this year to have "Access to Expertise" put onto
the University's network to be accessed through one of the file
servers. This may make it a rather more useful document - and one that
it easier to update...
