Does anyone know about the American Institute of Biological Sciences?

Recently they approached one of our PIs, asking him to participate as a peer
reviewer for research grants.  They said that they are part of the National
Academy of Science and review applications for govt agencies such as NASA.
I did get a flyer from them about a year ago or so...but never did follow up
to check out their validity.  Thanks for any info you can provide which will
help me advise the PI to go ahead and participate as a reviewer or to be ware.
