At UCLA, all members of the academic senate, whether in regular or emeritus
status, are eligible to serve as principal investigators.  We have not had
any serious problems with emeriti continuing to work on extramural projects
after their retirement.  Generally, the most serious problem is the
availability of space--particularly for projects that require laboratory
space.
