OFFICE MEMO NSF Electronic Award Notices Date:5/5/94
We have been getting Yale's awards via e-mail for almost a year and the system
(now!) works very well. In the beginning, a few notices went astray (to be
lost forever on the information highway), but NSF seems to have worked out the
bugs and we haven't missed an award in months. As a safeguard, they have
recently added one service: once a week a list is sent to the institution
listing all the awards that were sent in the previous week. This serves as a
great double-check. You must designate one address per institution to which
all awards will be sent (which means that I must forward any awards for faculty
in our Medical School to the Med School Grants Office). This works pretty well
until the designated e-mail recipient goes on vacation and forgets to give
his/her password to a colleague! We like the system very much--saves at least
a week in transmittal time. Unfortunately, here at Yale, it doesn't save us
much paper, since we must still make photocopies and send hardcopy around!
