To follow what Liz said about mainframe accounting systems
for grants mangement:
!. We have a mainframe system called CUFS. The grants
accounting portion has been very slow to come on line.
However, if it is as awkward and buggy as the rest of
the system, I'd ask a saleperson for a hostage before
purchasing. WE are contiunally promised modifications
next year. They must be mutterin "in Jerusalem" under
their breaths. The folks who work with the system
everyday and are accustomed to its idiosynchrasies seem
to liek it fine, but it's hard for us daytrippers.
2. At Texas A&M they are moving towards a paperless
sytem built on the FAMIS software. The Research
Foundation and others will also be able to gateway to
this system. Although it was not fully operational when
I left there, it had a lot of promise. That is a
massive and complex undertaking.
