Problem for the day:
My institution currently has a few post-doc NRSA awards. Since their
not considered employees of the institution they are paid through an accounts
payable process not on institutional payroll. The reason appears obvious
but one faculty member is insistent that there must be another way. HIs
post-doc is currently on payroll and receives institutional fringe benefits.
Once the post-doc's NRSA is activated the institutional fringe benefits
are withdrawn because the individual is no longer an employee. My question
is do other institution's allow the post-doc to continue receiving institutional
fringe benefits? The benefits would be paid by the post-doc but would be
calculated at the institution's rate as negotiated with each company. Legally
the post-doc isn't an employee and therefore is not entitled to receive them.
But in this instance, the post-doc is working on site and maybe should be
allowed to participate.
Hope that wasn't too confusing.......Comments anyone?
