YOUNGSTOWN STATE UNIVERSITY - Director of Grants and Sponsored Programs

Youngstown State University seeks applications for the position of
Director of Grants and Sponsored Programs.  The University is a state-
assisted, primarily non-residential,urban institution of higher education
with a strong record of academic achievement, public service and physical
growth.  It enrolls 15,000 students in a wide variety of programs,
ranging from two-year associate degrees to graduate programs at the
master's and doctoral level.  It includes six colleges (Arts and Sciences,
Business Administration, Education, Engineering and Technology, Fine
and Performing Arts, Health and Human Services) and the School of Graduate
Studies.  The University is located in Youngstown, Ohio, a metropolitan
region with a population in excess of 500,000, and located approximately
halfway between Pittsburgh and Cleveland.

POSITION:  The Director of Grants and Sponsored Programs reports to the
Dean of Graduate Studies.  The position requires an experienced, pro-active
person to asusme leadership for pre-award operations, compliance issues
(IACUC and IRB), and to oversee limited post-award activities.  The
Director actively promotes University efforts in research, teaching,
and public service, and aggressively pursues funding that enhances
these activities.  Responsibilities include developing an intimate
knowledge of the research and creative capabilities of the University
faculty; maintaining close contact with potential government and
private funding sources to identify current and future interests;
assisting faculty in the development of competitive proposals; fostering
collaboration across disciplines and institutions; and overseeing the
management of grants awarded to the University for research, teaching,
public service, and support services.  Salary for this position is
competitive and sommensurate with experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Candidates should have a doctoral degree and a strong
productive record in research.  A minimum of five years in the development
and administration of grants and contracts, or an equivalent combination
of education and experience, is required.  The successful candidate
must have an established record of securing funding from federal, state,
and private sources; excellent interpersonal, communication, and
negotiating skills; and strong evidence of administrative and leadership
ability.  Knowledge of federal regulations and compliance requirements
as they pertain to university research and sponsored programs is
expected.  Experience in higher education or a federal funding agency
is preferred.
