First of all, I'd like to thank everyone who offered material and emotional
support for the displaced Research Administration staff here at Cedars-Sinai
Medical Center. I only wish I knew about this network back in those dark
days in January when we didn't have a single PHS398 and couldn't make a long
distance phone call... It would have been invaluable to draw on all of your
experience and creativity (and, of course, all your stuff) to overcome this
unprecedented situation.
Frank Davis at the Huntington Medical Center in Pasadena, CA is coordinating
a submission to the SRA Journal that will encompass the experiences of all
the affected institutions in So. Cal. It might take a while, but it should
be useful to everyone in planning for disaster. [My personal tip: use
technology-- a central office voice mail message (updated hourly) was essential,
our old-fashioned telephone tree was completely useless; PC-base scanners are
an affordable and space-effective way to back up all documents (wish we had
some)].
Anyway, we rescued our files yesterday... now we just need a place to put them!
It never ends...
