Inclusion of bitnet/internet addresses Liz Mazzella 24 Mar 1994 16:27 EST

I agree with John that it is often useful to have e-mail addresses for
situations where you want to respond directly to an individual
regarding a message--but remember, if you respond directly
to an individual rather than to RESADM-L, only that individual
will receive your response--rather than the whole group--which
sort of defeats the "forum" purpose of the list.

Also, having the e-mail address of the individual will not avoid
the "reply" problem, because messages we all receive go from
the original sender to RESADM-L and then RESADM-L sends them to
all of us on the list. So, if you use REPLY function to respond to
a message from RESADM-L the reply goes to RESADM-L --not to the initial sender-
-and it causes RESADM-L all sorts of problems, as explained previously.

However if you send a message back WITHOUT using "reply" BUT you send
it to the original sender's e-mail address no one else on the
list will get it. Bottom line you should in general reply to
any message on RESADM-L by starting a new message(i.e. do NOT use
a "reply" function if your e-mail has one) and that message
should be addressed to xxxxxx@ALBNYDH2.BITNET if you want to
have the whole group see your response.

Of course there are situations where you may want to respond
directly to another subscriber, but remember that the group
will miss out on your witty retort!

Thanks
