A faculty member here has raised some questions about stipends and benefits
when they are part of an external grant.  We use our part-time benefit rate
(currently 17%) and treat benefits as direct costs.  The college takes the 17%
for its share of providing benefits.  The faculty member only pays taxes and
the 7.65% FICA out of the stipend he receives.  How does your institution
handle these situations?  I would appreciate some comparisons.
