OFFICE MEMO RE: Returned proposals Date:1/26/94
At Yale, the Grants Office does review proposals for format. If we see a
problem with type size, page limitations, etc., we make every effort to
convince the PI to correct the proposal. Sometimes, if there's a deadline,
there's no time to make the corrections. Sometimes the PI is stubborn. In any
case, we make notes for our files and let the proposal go as is. If the
proposal is returned unreviewed, we can say "I told you so." Our grants
specialists are pretty good at catching format problems--the only time we seem
to slip is when the proposal comes in at the last minute and has to go back out
immediately. We've never (knock on wood) had a faculty member complain that we
missed something.
