Terry...welcome to the club! I have been buned by NIH several times for using
incorrect type size and/or exceeding the cpi (characters per inch). It is now
standard operating procedure in this office to break out the ruler and measure
type size on every application. This office has been emphatic when it comes
to reminding the faculty to heed the NIH guidelines. We inserted out own
"flier" inn the PHS398 application to specifically remind them of this rule.
However, there is very little you can do about last minute applications.
You're up against the wall. Do you return the proposal to the pi or send it
on and hope that it is not rejected? The type size ruke is not applied
universally. Some do get through. My advice is to be as proactive with the
faculty as you can and pray for the best results!
