At Yale, the on-campus rate is 64% MTDC (modified total direct costs).  Our
exclusions include equipment, tuition, and the portion of subcontracts over
$25,000.  I hope you have better luck getting your faculty to understand this
concept than we have here.  Part of your argument should include what it is
they get from overhead (heat, police and fire protection, use of central
offices, etc.).  Our PI's don't think it's worth it!  The argument
continues.....
