Colleagues,

I am currently working on a budget file update for a proposal submitted via Research.gov vs FastLane & I've run into an issue as there is no button to actually submit the revised materials requested by the NSF PO.  I called the help desk & even did a Zoom call with the customer service rep, but this has stumped her & she's consulting with the program developers to figure out how to resolve this issue.  She'll be calling me back, once she has more information.  Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Guess we should all expect to be presented with challenges, when learning a new agency's proposal portal.  This is exactly why I love our profession so much - I'm constantly learning new things!

Thanks to everyone that has replied! The PI has given me access and I saw that the only section to upload anything is the Budget Impact Statement section. I will go ahead and include the justification there, as several of you have pointed out.

Strangely, FastLane doesn’t include a link to upload a revised budget justification after a request like this, so I usually use the link for the budget impact statement (and include that, either addressing the changes in scope attendant on the revision, or indicating that the change is less than 10% of the budget so no impact statement is required, with the revised budget justification.)

As the previous commenter noted, the PI must initiate the update and then give you access (*cough* unless they’re willing to give you their login information so you can do it for them *cough*). (NSF should really get their heads around the idea that most PIs would prefer to have as little to do with grant management systems as possible, and most routinely ask their research office staff to handle these requests.)

Hi Colleagues,

I am still fairly new to NSF grants and Fastlane. A program officer has asked us to submit a revised proposal budget on Fastlane and I am having difficulty locating where to upload a budget justification. Is anyone familiar with this issue? I’m assuming we will have to email the justification directly to the program officer, but just wanted to double check with you trusted folks first.
