SAMHSA "MJ Grant Language" Adam Kuehn 17 Oct 2019 14:43 EST

Hi, all-

Our institution recently received a mid-period, unannounced, and unexpected modification to an existing award from SAMHSA. The purpose of the mod was to add a Special Term entitled "MJ Grant Language" including a prohibition on using award funds to purchase, prescribe, or provide marijuana. The award also includes a prohibition stating, "Grant funds also cannot be provided to any individual who or organization that provides or permits marijuana use for the purposes of treating substance use or mental disorders." The term also requires SO certification certifying compliance with the new term.

Compliance with that term is trivial in this particular case, given that marijuana purchase and distribution are not legal in our state for any purpose and all the funds associated with the award are expected to be spent within the state.

But we were just curious: Have any other institutions received such a modification to an existing SAMHSA award or had that term included in any new award? Our modification was dated October 11, 2019.

Thanks,

-Adam
