PI Eligibility Policies David Bond 02 Jul 2019 07:42 EST

Good Day,

I am reviewing our PI eligibility policies and comparing them to a number of other schools. It appears that ours are consistent with most of higher ed, essentially full time tenure track and tenured faculty are eligible PIs, and other categories may be eligible with special approval. I was wondering if your institutions have any particular policies or practices relating to the following scenarios:

1. Post docs. Are they eligible with approval? As co-PIs? As PIs with an eligible co-PI? Also, is this something you address in the post doc mentoring plan if applicable?
2. Visiting faculty. Again, are they eligible? Do you have any special conditions on proposals they submit?
3. Faculty with terminal contracts or known end dates. Any special considerations for faculty who have a determined end date and will be leaving your university? Do any of your institutions mandate an eligible co-PI?

Thank you. Feel free to contact me directly at xxxxxx@rit.edu.
