POSITION DESCRIPTION: The position serves as a resource to assist faculty and staff with pre-award grant development, proposal submission and research compliance. The major function of this position is to assist faculty and staff in submission and pre-award administration of grants and contracts.  This position will also provide support for research compliance activities, and will assist the Director with special projects, such as the annual Scholarly and Creative Activities Day and Undergraduate Research Experience events.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires a Bachelor's Degree.  Similar work experience in higher education may be substituted for the educational requirement.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s Degree or higher
Experience in grant proposal development, including proposal writing and budgets in an academic (preferably higher education) environment.
Work experience with faculty and/or researchers in a university or similar environment.
Ability to develop and deliver presentations, workshops, and other training.
Working knowledge of budgetary principles and the regulatory environment relative to sponsored programs.
Knowledge of funding programs.
Experience in a central office of externally funded research and sponsored programs in a university, hospital, or other research setting.
Experience and/or training with research compliance administration or processes (IRB, IACUC, RCR).
Certified Professional IACUC Administrator (CPIA), Certified Research Administrator (CRA) or Certified IRB Professional (CIP) Certification
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including the ability to provide constructive feedback.
Exceptional reading, grammar, editing, and writing skills.
Demonstrated skills in strong attention to detail and an ability to prioritize, organize and implement multiple tasks simultaneously.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with faculty, administrators, co-workers and external funding agencies.
Ability to apply sound judgment and discretion in working with sensitive information within the context of external regulations, university policies, and legal constraints.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment with strict deadline pressures.
Ability to identify resources, solve problems and take initiative.
Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and as an effective team member.
Ability to read, interpret and analyze proposal guidelines and to explain requirements effectively to faculty.
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel), Adobe Acrobat, and Internet search processes.
Knowledge of, or ability to understand grant budgets.
Knowledge of or ability to learn online submission systems such as NSF Fastlane, grants.gov, IRBNet, etc.
Knowledge of or ability to learn federal regulations governing grants and research.
Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Proposal development
Assist faculty and staff in the development of competitive proposals for external funding.
Advise faculty and staff on proposal preparation strategies, create timelines and monitor progress.
Provide assistance with proofreading, formatting and editing of grant narratives.
Assist faculty/staff with budget preparation and budget justifications.
Review budgets for compliance with sponsor requirements, university policies, and applicable federal guidelines.
Assist faculty/staff with preparing additional information or supporting documentation required by the funder.
Prepare electronic proposal packages and forms for submission in accordance with specific federal requirements and guidelines.
Review proposals to ensure they are properly prepared, compliant with sponsor and university policies and federal regulations.
Maintain working proposal files.
Provide accurate and timely record keeping of all grant proposals submitted, pending and awarded.
Provide assistance to the OSSP Director in the compilation of data for reports.
Conduct funding opportunity searches in response to requests, and identify, review and disseminate information regarding funding opportunities to relevant faculty and staff
Work with departments to foster grant interests and promote faculty/staff involvement with grant activities and proposal development.
Assist in communicating policies and procedures to faculty and staff.
Assist in the training and education of faculty and departmental staff on proposal development.

 Research Compliance:
Assist with the coordination of IRB processes, conducting pre-review checks, and assisting researchers with application preparation and submission.
Maintain IACUC records, minutes, correspondence, reviews, databases and files.
Complete (or maintain) CITI training for IRB and IACUC administration. The certification must be renewed every three years.
Other Duties as Assigned:
Assist with special projects, such as the annual Scholarly and Creative Activities Day and Undergraduate Research Experience events
