--Senior Director of Research Services--Georgetown University-- The Senior Director of Research Services has oversight of the Office of Research Services (ORS) on the main campus and implements initiatives of the Vice Provost for Research. /He manages staff who handle all pre- and post-award activities, including proposal development, grant and contract management, compliance, and reporting; and works with center and institute directors, Office of Sponsored Accounting staff, Main Campus Finance Office (MCFO), Tax Department, Office of the General Counsel, Office of Regulatory Affairs, deans, department chairs, governmental and non-governmental funding agencies and others to ensure institutional compliance with all required guidelines, policies, applicable laws and regulations. The Senior Director implements initiatives aimed at growing the research portfolio at Georgetown including - for example, implementing mechanisms to enhance collaboration between Main Campus, the Medical Campus and Law Center, improving upon and building research infrastructure, and promoting research. Reporting to the Vice Provost for Research, the Senior Director has duties that include but are not limited to: Program Direction -Organizes and directs the University's program of grants and sponsored research, in collaboration with the Vice Provost of Research. -Creates and fosters an environment of support for the University research community. -Sets goals, develops strategic plans, and implements programs and practices to increase external grant and contract awards supporting research, training and instruction. -Participates with senior administration in the development of policies to promote grants and contracts that furthers and supports the University's strategic research goals and objectives. -Establishes and maintains effective communication and cooperative working relationships with University administrators, faculty, staff, government and private agencies. -Serves as the Senior Business Manager for the Office of Research Services. -Hires, trains and supervises pre-award and post-award administrators to work with faculty to prepare and submits proposals and help faculty to effectively manage sponsored grant and contract awards. -Administers and interprets institutional and applicable federal and/or state laws and regulations governing the administration and management of sponsored awards. -Liaises with the IRB Regulatory Compliance Director as necessary to ensure compliance with regulations regarding the protection of human subjects in research. -Oversees the preparation of complex grant proposals to fund major University initiatives. Initiatives Support Supports initiatives of the Vice Provost of Research that further the research mission of the Main Campus – to include: -Staffing faculty task forces, developing supporting materials (e.g., data on campus research, benchmarking research on practices at other universities); -Developing and implementing new policies; projects aimed at building research infrastructure (e.g., equipment and facilities support), research communication (internally and externally); and -Other activities essential to the promotion of research at Georgetown University. Performance Tracking Tracks performance and customer services metrics such as: -Resolutions: number of inquiries resolved (how many cases is the team and each team member able to resolve in a week or month). -Time to Resolution: average amount of time it takes to resolve an inquiry. -First Response Time: the average amount of time it takes to respond to an inquiry after it's been submitted. -Backlog Inflow/Outflow: the number of inquiries submitted and in-progress compared to number of inquiries closed (is backlog shrinking or growing). University Representation -Represents the University at professional meetings and forums - e.g., Federal Demonstration Partnership (FDP) meetings, Council on Governmental Relations (COGR), in liaison with funding agencies. -Participates in professional conferences and meetings -e.g., NCURA (National Council of University Research Administrators), Society of Research Administrators International (SRA). -Serves on appropriate University committees as required and directed by the Vice Provost for Research. -Directs the establishment and maintenance of essentials records and files of all proposal and sponsored grant and contract awards. -Identifies and funds professional development for staff.
