Here is our standard template.    It has multiple features built in:

·         Fringe benefit rates autocalculate.

·         Tuition remission autocalculates.

·         Multiple tabs are included so that we can split the funds between PIs/departments.

·         Allows for splits between functions (Teaching, Research, and Extension) so multiple F&A rates can be applied, if necessary.

·         Finally, it figures F&A at both our institutional rate and the USDA limit.  It then has a formula that looks at both rates and automatically chooses the lower of the two, and then displays how much is waived (if the USDA limit is chosen).  To take it a step further, it doesn’t make that comparison on each budget tab, but looks at the cumulative.

We lock it down so that our PIs can’t change our formulas. If you want to unprotect it, the password is “research”.
