Good question! I was under the impression that while the IRB should have a non-affiliated member, this person is not required for a quorum. As opposed to the non-scientific member who MUST be present for a quorum. Correct? Can a person be on the phone/skype? Does having graduated from the institution 25 years ago make a person affiliated? I think not. You might aslo check with Realtors. They know everybody in town. I moved here 2 years ago and recruited the husband of my Realtor as a non-affiliated member. Any suggestions on how to find external members for your ethics committees? The BIG challenge for us is the requirement that they/immediate family members have no connection to the institution. Abilene is relatively small, and we are the biggest institution in town. Most civic-minded individuals around here are affiliated. This is proving to be the thing that is preventing me from setting up an IACUC and from having an effective external member in the IRB. -- Megan Roth, Ph.D. Director, Office of Research and Sponsored Programs Abilene Christian University 320 Hardin Administration Bldg ACU Box 29103 Abilene, TX 79699 O: 325-674-2885<tel:325-674-2885> F: 325-674-6785<tel:325-674-6785> xxxxxx@acu.edu<mailto:xxxxxx@acu.edu> Email secured by Check Point
======================================================================
Instructions on how to use the RESADM-L Mailing List, including
subscription information and a web-searchable archive, are available
via our web site at http://www.healthresearch.org<http://cp.mcafee.com/d/avndzgw838srho78ILCzBxZYTsSzuXWtQT7xNJ6ZTQXFzD7PqdXLFTjsuudETujpjoposdS9X4_W2FfpAZcqm1k2OJKZ1IT0IHrLgrd-wqekSi0V_HYPtVNZZfHTbFFCzC_fLCzBZ4QszKmKzp55l55zBgY-F6lK1FJ4SUrhWWgb6xwg3xIK5jtPo08D-DP9N-DX6Nfw09KFy7NbN-CEaBPMkvaAWsj_jVAU_jZzoDM04SyU-YqejobZ8Qg6BI5zgM81MSn2FFtd40q82gj4zh1I43h06wIpd47xY_z3jPh0HWF3UCS63p8U2> (click on the
"LISTSERV" link in the upper right corner)

A link directly to helpful tips: http://tinyurl.com/resadm-l-help
<http://cp.mcafee.com/d/2DRPoA76Qm1ObbVEVovvdTdETK-DtdNUsrhLtZeWoVNYSzuXWtQT7DzqdTASkS6m73tyuNf-wGjSpfj6Bwl0IHrLgrdMbaSXQ6PvE6zBdAwevW_cTusvvjWZOWqpEVLPXVEVvhd78XBHEShhlhhoVkffGhBrwqrjdK6QuKA2NEo40UrbxkTsS03Da1pK9_bV7WqwGnfbA_fm7Iyh28ZAqdRcg-9ufQR1kKu2zVkDjyvWvcD7WvIr4-00CQn7TzhOr1vF6y0QJwIq610e6OUldbFEw3h0i2oAq8dwwq80Q5z9EwYfDYoquq85vl8v4SMMrRCCLFgpvdw8Q> ======================================================================
Email secured by Check Point
======================================================================
Instructions on how to use the RESADM-L Mailing List, including
subscription information and a web-searchable archive, are available
via our web site at http://www.healthresearch.org<http://cp.mcafee.com/d/1jWVIe410p6zqb0V5BYQsIfLCXCQrTvjKCUYedETK-DtcsU-rhLtZeWrzPNJ6XOrar3b3xKNfoD_gl9XcDFziMawmlJTEdCU5BrtW3pLQ3hOCOg7fZvCrLefLFZuVtdcQsTVZYQsLECzAtORQr8EGEEIsG7DR8OJMddICT3qfni1oQc20sdBMGrKr014_Q-pefQ_oS9Y01dRcg-9ufQR1kKu2zVkDjyvWvcD7WvIr4-00CQn7TzhOr1vF6y0QJwIq610e6OUldbFEw3h0i2oAq8dwwq80Q5z9EwYfDYoquq85vl8v4SMMrbKkO> (click on the
"LISTSERV" link in the upper right corner)

A link directly to helpful tips: http://tinyurl.com/resadm-l-help
<http://cp.mcafee.com/d/k-Kr6xAe6zqb0V5BYQsIfLCXCQrTvjKCUYedETK-DtcsU-rhLtZeWrzPNJ6XOrar3b3xKNfoD_gl9XcDFziMawmlJTEdCU5BrtW3pLQ3hOCOg7fZvCrLefLFZuVtdcQsTVZYQsLECzAtORQr8EGEEIsG7DR8OJMddI6T3qfni1oQc20sdBMGrKr01PB0IT4_BYzZdglbDBOvDH3Sh8x4uOd6WC8v4L7WqwGnf1hYGjFNfZfCjzZfSdyv00jqbzXNEVdwLQzh0qmMmd30w73psaCBQQg1Ew91cid46Mgd40q2NAQgu7P-cdfd42LGAfyroodT3V_pcj> ======================================================================
Email secured by Check Point
======================================================================
Instructions on how to use the RESADM-L Mailing List, including
subscription information and a web-searchable archive, are available
via our web site at http://www.healthresearch.org<http://cp.mcafee.com/d/5fHCN0SyMehpvd7b3XVKVJ6ZTQXFKf3zqdXLFTj7efCQrTvjKCUYYrhKYCOCMOMUrIjS9_Q5iuP9WoQI2E5BrtW3pK1pmTuwSrZ0QsFIA1P_nVCXPzXWvnKnjjd7d-vvd7bW9EV7sJt6OaaGab7axVZicHs3jrVJMSzRQwmd30w73psaCXCM0hfZfCjzZfSdyv00jtj4fynzZdglbDwE-l9QUD-DP9N-DX6Nfw09J5NZUQsCMnWhEwdbob6xwg3xIK5jiWq80Qg4wC96y3o86y0d1oOq8f3V_66DCy1nRi7NdIc6Mg1GZxDqzTWT> (click on the
"LISTSERV" link in the upper right corner)

A link directly to helpful tips: http://tinyurl.com/resadm-l-help
<http://cp.mcafee.com/d/k-Kr6x0SyMehpvd7b3XVKVJ6ZTQXFKf3zqdXLFTj7efCQrTvjKCUYYrhKYCOCMOMUrIjS9_Q5iuP9WoQI2E5BrtW3pK1pmTuwSrZ0QsFIA1P_nVCXPzXWvnKnjjd7d-vvd7bW9EV7sJt6OaaGab7axVZicHs3jrxJMSzRQwmd30w73psaCXCM0sVgbdNfVv8_jk5iVVsDVWNEY8hd7NKFy7NbN-CEaBPMkvaAWsj_jVAU_jZzoDM04SyU-YqejobZ8Qg6BI5zgM81MSn2FFtd40q82gj4zh1I43h06wIpd47xY_z3jPh0HWF3UCS63s4h45y_5n2V5> ======================================================================

======================================================================
Instructions on how to use the RESADM-L Mailing List, including
subscription information and a web-searchable archive, are available
via our web site at http://www.healthresearch.org (click on the
"LISTSERV" link in the upper right corner)

A link directly to helpful tips: http://tinyurl.com/resadm-l-help
======================================================================
