Essential Functions The Research Administration Training Manager is located within the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and reports to the Director for Research Education & Information. The Research Administration Training Manager develops, implements and manages the institutional Research Administration Knowledge Center, which includes a formal training program/curriculum as well as resources, in the form of a web portal. The training program and resources will partner with university compliance offices and subject matter experts to design a curriculum encompassing research administration topics, including managing pre- and post- award, legal and ethical compliance, budgeting and project management, grants fiscal management, the legal and regulatory environment, contracts and subcontracts, auditing, facilities and administrative cost, intellectual property and technology transfer and organizational models. • Develops and oversees centrally-managed training programs for central and school/departmental research administration staff. • Responsible for establishing and managing curriculum for research administration training. • Responsible for Research Administration Training portal/website content. • Manages content for Shared Tools and Best Practices website (portal). • Staffs Knowledge Center Work Group. • Responsible for organizing course masters and course schedules. • Assists with preparing training content and materials for courses. • Tracks and monitors trainee participation and performance. • Tracks and monitors course master participation and rating by participants. • Establishes certification recognition criteria and requirements, and provides certification to qualifying course participants. • Monitors, analyzes and reports data pertaining to research administration training. More specifically attendance numbers, outcomes, overall satisfaction with curriculum and retention. • Acts as course master, as necessary. • Responsible for approving purchases related to Research Administration training program. • Acts as backup for other course masters • Responsible for ensuring training materials are current and reflect current regulations. • Develops, submits and manages budget for Research Administration training program. • May present at Research Forums, Departmental meetings and conferences • May attend Research Administration conferences • Establishes and maintains relationships with other academic institutional Research Administration training contacts. Required Qualifications Equivalent of Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of experience in grants administration, accounting or related field or 10 years of combined education and related experience. • Working knowledge of computers, spreadsheets, word processing, organizational, verbal, written and interpersonal skills. • Demonstrated analytic skills. • Ability to take action in solving problems while exhibiting independent judgment in decision making processes and a realistic understanding of issues. • Ability to organize or schedule people or tasks, to develop realistic plans while being sensitive to the needs of different constituencies, time constraints and resource availability. • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing clearly and effectively, presenting ideas, documenting activities, reading and interpreting written information such as federal, state and internal guidelines and requirements. • Demonstrated influence and persuasive skills. • Experience working collaboratively with other academic institutions and professional organizations, e.g., National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA). Preferred Qualifications • Master’s Degree preferred. • Supervisory experience highly preferred. • Training experience preferred. • Website experience preferred. • Certified Research Administrator (CRA) Certificate and active membership in NCURA and/or SRA preferred. • Knowledge of AIS, HRMS, RAPS, FOCUS, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office, PC, PDS, SUBS, agency guidelines, etc. Salary Range The hiring range for this position is commensurate with experience.
