The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI), one of the world's largest independent non-profit research facilities, stands at the forefront of basic biomedical science, a vital segment of medical research that seeks to comprehend the most fundamental processes of life.
The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) is currently seeking a Grants Administrator I (Pre-Award). The selected incumbent will provide administrative expertise in the pre-award reviewing of basic or routine contract and grant proposals; assist in coordinating aspects of pre-award application and document submission, which may include interacting with administrative support staff, faculty, and other key stakeholders to refine proposal project budgets, accurate record keeping, renewals, supplements, amendments, subcontracts, etc. Specific responsibilities may include reviewing pre-award documentation for accuracy, reporting requirements, allowable costs, conformance with TSRI guidelines and any special conditions prior to submission; reviewing applications to ensure that animal protocol, human subjects and subcontract requirements are met when applicable, requesting documents and/or revisions as appropriate; electronic submission of the grant to the NIH or other funding agency upon the completion of the document review process; maintaining knowledge of funding agency and TSRI requirements and regulations and of funding agency electronic proposal submission processes; staying current on changes in federal and sponsor regulations that impact the pre-award aspect of scientific grant submission; other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required or assigned.
Requires a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in accounting, finance, business administration or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained. Some accounting experience is required, prefer 2 years. Requires effective analytical, verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with all levels of faculty and staff. Must have effective time management skills in order to organize and prioritize workload, foresee problem areas, and seek immediate action. Must have the ability to multi-task while serving as a resource person for all contacts and providing a high level of customer service. Requires the ability to work independently, within tight timeframes, as well as excel in a collaborative environment. Requires strong computer skills using Microsoft Office to include word processing, web searching, downloading, and reporting, database manipulation, and spreadsheets, and the ability to learn new systems and applications. Experience working with the NIH and/or other major granting agencies involving or related to pre-award grant review and submittal of scientific grants is highly desirable, as is the knowledge and understanding of various grant application processes.
