"Overhead" on Restricted Gifts Vargas, Pamela 09 Mar 2015 09:12 EST

Hi, all!

I am asking this question for an area nonprofit with the hope that someone out there has some experience in this area. Please feel free to respond offline if you prefer to xxxxxx@kutztown.edu if you can share some successes or challenges with regard to this question:

Do any of your universities/foundations take any sort of fee or 'overhead' on restricted gifts from donors (not grants)?

Some examples include cash gifts that are for a specific purpose, perhaps of the donor's request, or gifts of property that require administrative expenses or upkeep. The organization is finding that its administrative and facilities costs are increasing as a result of supporting the growth and is trying to find ways to offset those expenses, particularly before they can be added to the operating budget and properly budgeted for.

Thanks for any assistance you can provide!

Pam
