 Job Summary
 The Office of Sponsored Research is responsible for
assisting faculty and other researchers in the preparation and submission of
research proposals and the administration of grants and contracts which are
awarded to the University. The primary responsibilities of the Grant and
Contract Specialist II within the office will be to negotiate subcontracts,
professional service agreements, grant agreements, etc. with other
institutions and other sources of federal funding, as well as contracts with
nonprofit foundations, associations, and other non-industrial entities.

 The responsibilities of this position will also include
non-financial post award activities such as processing modifications,
amendments, and extension for contracts and grants and preparing applicable
close-out documents. This position will also be responsible for a
departmental case load for grant proposal review, submission and
negotiation. The Grant and Contract Specialist II is expected to have
sophisticated knowledge of NIH and/or NSF funding mechanisms.

 Education Required
 Bachelor's degree in business, law, accounting, management,
or science. Experience may not be substituted for the education requirement.

 Experience Required
 3 years:
 - Experience in reviewing and negotiating federal and
nonfederal agreements and contracts.
 - Experience in proposal submission, grant and contract
negotiation, sub-award agreements, and/or research compliance (IRB, IACUC
and Export Control).
 - Experience working in a university environment.
 Education may not be substituted for the experience
requirement.

 Other Skills Required
 - Proficient on a PC or Mac including familiarity with MS
Word, MS Excel and email systems.
 - Work independently and set priorities for accomplishing
numerous tasks.
 - Detail oriented.
 - Ability to be flexible and work well under pressure.
 - Strong organization skills.
 - Strong interpersonal skills.
 - Excellent communication skills.
 - Excellent grant and contract negotiation skills.
 - Ability to navigate electronic research administration
systems.
 - Knowledge of NIH and NSF funding mechanisms.
 - Must have strong analytical skills.
 - Must have demonstrated decision-making ability and good
judgment.
