At the University of Richmond, we have a long-standing Arts & Sciences Faculty Research Committee that awards summer stipends, research grants, and travel awards for presentations abroad at international meetings. I sit as a non-voting member of this committee; it is very helpful for me to know what research is going on that I haven't seen in the external grant seeking group. I also help inform the committee about what external funding might be available for (or has already been secured by) applicants.
