Janet-I didn't care as much about it until I had a PI have his NGA delayed for a publication languishing in the system. That was no fun!

You actually can have someone from your institution sign on as your institutional PubMed monitor, which has been helpful for us. You get more access to which publications are languishing in the system.

Overall, it's a good thing--everyone should see/benefit what happens from federally funded research programs, right? But it can also be obnoxiously bureaucratic.

Thank you for much for providing the link as this is something that I need to learn a lot more about.

Hi Diana,

The PMCID number (PubMed Central reference number) is used at the end of citations. These must be used by anyone submitting an application, proposal or report to the NIH when citing applicable papers that they author or that arise from their NIH-funded research. I’ve included a link which goes into more detail if interested.
