Position Title: Contracts and Grants Accountant II Campus: Portland Department: Sponsored Programs - PSPON Bargaining Unit: UMPSA Salary Band/Wage Band: 103 Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm evenings and weekends as necessary Statement of Job: As one of three Contracts and Grants Accountants, works with the USM faculty, staff, and sponsors to ensure the financial and administrative integrity of approximately $35 million in contracts and grants at the University of Southern Maine. The CGAII ensures compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, and regulations, and continually evaluates existing systems/controls for improvement. The CGAII’s responsibilities encompass a broad range of activities beginning with the preparation of proposals to sponsors through the final audit and closeout of the project. Qualifications: Required: Bachelor’s degree with a major or minor in accounting and at least five years of experience in financially-oriented administrative positions, or the equivalent in training and experience. Demonstrated administrative experience including the ability to coordinate, monitor, and financially manage project activities. Demonstrated computer proficiency in spreadsheet, database, word-processing and internet applications. Ability to learn various policies and procedures and apply them using independent judgment. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a clear and organized manner. Ability to contribute to group process and shared decision making. Preferred: Experience with contract and grant financial management in a university setting. Proficiency in the Microsoft Suite of Applications – Word, Excel, and Access.
