I concur for the same reasons! Kathy Young Director (retired) Illinois State University Sent from my iPhone On May 7, 2013, at 10:43 AM, "Lorrie Anthony" <xxxxxx@ESC.EDU<mailto:xxxxxx@ESC.EDU>> wrote: Scott, That is certainly happening at my institution. I think there are two reasons for it: 1.) with the reduction of state support - we are a state institution - we are seeing a greater emphasis from the administration to bring in more outside money; and 2.) with the retirement of many of our faculty, younger faculty are much more interested in pursuing their personal research projects which, due to item #1, the administration is encouraging. Previously the culture here was "we are a teaching college." Now we are looking to broaden our scope and reputation. In short, are faculty writing more grants, seeking more external dollars? This is something that, from observation internally and externally at a few other institutions, seems to be happening. I have looked to find any sort of scholarly research related to this, but have thus far come up empty handed. I just get the impression that PUI schools in general may be trying to bolster their research dollars, and I'm curious to investigate the reasons behind it. Thanks for any insights, Scott NOTE: Due to a generator fire in Ginger Hall, The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs has temporarily moved to Seminar 001 (Basement of Fields Hall) until further notice. Please call 606-783-2010 if you need to reach me directly; however, e-mail will be the most effective communication at this time. Thank you for your patience during this period!
