University Grants and Contracts Specialist I (UCP VI)
Multiple Positions

Position Summary

The Office for Sponsored Programs, the centralized research administration office for the University of Connecticut, is seeking energetic, career-minded Grants and Contracts Specialist professionals to join our growing research administration team.

The University Grants and Contracts Specialist will provide specialized professional financial and compliance oversight and technical assistance to facilitate sponsored project and research activity conducted at the University, in accordance with federal, state, university and other regulatory and compliance requirements.

Candidates are encouraged to apply who have experience in the areas of Post-Award, Pre-Award and/or Contracts grant administration.  Representative duties will include management and oversight of grant-related expenditures and financial transactions; preparation of grant closeouts; oversight for billing and reporting obligations; resolution of financial discrepancies; provision of guidance and technical assistance to researchers in the development and revision of budgets and extension of deadlines; serves as University liaison with research sponsors; performs related tasks as requested or required. Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include:  Bachelor's degree in accounting or an appropriate field and four years of recent relevant experience, or eight years of recent relevant experience; experience working with federal and state laws and regulations; excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills; demonstrated experience developing budgets or performing financial transactions, including preparation of financial reports; effective time management and organizational skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment; proficiency with business technology, web and Internet applications, including fax, email, spreadsheets, databases and word-processing.

Preferred qualifications include:  Bachelor's degree; prior training or experience working with faculty in higher education and/or in research administration; Certified Research Administrator (CRA) certification; knowledge of current trends and developments in research administration; experience using an electronic research administration system and/or financial systems.

Appointment Terms

This is a full-time, twelve-month, permanent position, with a competitive salary and benefit package, and a target start date of January 2, 2013.
