Contracts Specialist / Grants and Contracts Specialist I (UCP VI)
Position Summary
The Office for Sponsored Programs, the centralized research administration office for the University of Connecticut, is seeking an energetic, career-minded contract administration professional to join our Contracts and Compliance administration team.
The Contracts Specialist will provide specialized technical assistance in the review, development and negotiation of incoming and outgoing contracts and agreements in support of the University's sponsored research activities.
Primary duties will include: process and provide technical assistance in preparation of contracts and agreements; review, revision and negotiation of contract terms; interpretation of University, federal and state policies and regulations; approval of advance account set-up for grant expenditures; dissemination of regulatory updates and oversight of website content; maintenance of contract database and documentation for activity and compliance; monitoring and reporting of contract and agreement status; provide training as needed; performs related tasks as requested or required. Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include: Bachelor's degree and four years of recent, demonstrated experience in contract administration or a related area for a business or governmental agency, OR eight years of progressively responsible recent, demonstrated experience in contract administration or a related area, for a business or governmental agency; working knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations governing technical aspects of grants and contracts; superior verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills; effective time-management and personal organizational skills; ability to work effectively within tight timelines and under deadline pressure; ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment; proficiency with business technology, web and Internet applications, including fax, email, spreadsheets, databases and word-processing.
Preferred qualifications include: Training or experience as a paralegal or legal assistant; Masters degree, or Certified Research Administrator (CRA) certification; experience working with faculty in a higher education or research administration setting; knowledge of current trends and developments in research administration; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.
Appointment Terms
This is a full-time, twelve-month, permanent position, with a target start date of November 30, 2012.
