So far AHA is the only organization we've submitted to with a fee requirement; however, I do recall another one that escapes me at the moment which required a membership in an organization to submit. Anyway, our policy has been determined that for now as soon as a PI indicates interest in submitting to an agency that requires any type of fee or membership that we inform them that these costs are paid by them. Depending on the membership parameters we might encourage them to talk to their Dean or Chair about this cost but we are very clear that they are not a cost that the central office will cover. This is a policy that might be reviewed in the future depending on numbers and types of submissions with fees. Fran Stephens, CRA, MSgt (USAF,Ret.) If you'd rather I didn't I can pull it offline but I figure since you're offering to share it with everyone why not just put it out there for them. Also if you have an update at some point drop me an email and I'll be happy to put that online as well. I support the concept of complexity and would ad that often the msall grants require far more work than very large NIH grants. So with a shrinking portfolio of NIH dollars, the work load can easily escalate in terms of hours spent to administer these awards. > > -----Original Message----- > From: Research Administration List [mailto:xxxxxx@lists.healthresearch.org] On Behalf Of Athey, Rochelle R [VPRED] > Sent: Friday, August 10, 2012 12:37 PM > To: xxxxxx@lists.healthresearch.org > Subject: Re: [RESADM-L] Sponsored Programs Performance Metrics > > We're trying to come up with a measure of complexity. I have a draft document that splits up our award types into complexity groups from 1 the least complex to 5 most complex. Let me know if you want a copy. I want to add the 1-5 complexity rating to our award database and run reports from time to time on complex awards. It's a very vague measure but it's better than what we have now (nothing). > > Rochelle R.
