Another COI question! Since one of the conditions for which we must require investigator training is a change in institutional policy, and all institutions who choose to comply with the new regs. must change their policy by 8/24/12, when are you requiring completion of training of your current NIH-funded investigators? We are planning to require completion of the CITI COI training by September 30, 2012. What are others doing?

Thanks!

I believe some of the University of California campuses are doing it "just-in-time" and other institutions likely are as well.

My August issue has four articles on COI (including on about NSF), if anyone would like a copy please email me off list.

We have set a training/disclosure deadline of October 30.
We will accept completion of the NIH Tutorial as fulfilling the training
requirement until then. After that, CITI training is required.
However, prime awardees may set other deadlines that will supersede ours.

Subject: Re: NIH revised FCOI reg - investigator training

For another option, please note the guidance from the training section
FAQs posted on the PHS FCOI website:

1. Can an Institution implement the regulatory requirements prior
to having all of its Investigators trained on Financial Conflict of
Interest as required under the 2011 revised regulation? (Institution)

Yes. The implementation date can precede the date when all
Investigators have been trained. If the implementation date falls on
the 365th day (i.e., August 24, 2012), it is expected that all
Investigators who are supported by the NIH will complete their training
obligations prior to engaging in NIH-supported research or by the issue
date of the Notice of Award issued subsequent to the Institution's
implementation date.

Along these lines -
In the previous thread on FCOI someone had mentioned that they'd heard of institutions doing their training at the point of disclosure. If anyone has some more info about this method, I'd love to talk with you offline about it.

For another option, please note the guidance from the training section
FAQs posted on the PHS FCOI website:

=20

I believe some of the University of California campuses are doing it "just-=
in-time" and other institutions likely are as well.

My August issue has four articles on COI (including on about NSF), if anyon=
e would like a copy please email me off list.

Subject: Web site design ideas

Hey everyone,

One of my job duties is to manage our Office of Research and Sponsored Programs web site.

We are about to migrate to a new system, and we just got a new VP of Research who is interested in revamping our site. He thinks that it's too difficult to navigate, particularly for someone new to research.

I agree, and told him it's akin to explaining to someone on the street what we all do for a living - it's not always easy!

Does anyone have any examples of web sites that the think 'gets it right'? There's probably several ways to tackle this, but I'm just hoping for some ideas to get my creativity flowing.

Thanks in advance!

P.S. Our site is http://www.moreheadstate.edu/research if you want to have a look.
