Hi Arlene,

I am now at a PUI and due to the faculty contract and our budget, we are not able to provide monetary incentivizes for research. At this time we are providing various acknowledgements that did not occur before.
1. An annual report that lists the faculty with pictures and brief descriptions of their award. We include those who received internal awards.
2. An annual luncheon by invitation only for those who proposed or received external funding. We provide 3 awards for the person with the largest award, smallest award and the most activity.
3. An annual scholarly activities report.
4. A certificate signed by the President acknowledging those who accomplished the highest level of scholarship for their field.

The reports and awards are created as part of my office's function. The luncheon comes from my annual budget. I have not had to tap the returned IDC to fund this, and hopefully never will. We are hopefully that these items will continue after I "move on" to where ever the next "job" will be (Hopefully that is retirement).

Cheers,
Rene

Subject: [RESADM-L] Faculty recognization activities

Hi,

At the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez, we are interested in developing lasting initiatives to recognize and incentivize faculty involved in research. Last semester we had our first Researchers Appreciation Night and, while our objectives were met, we were also able to identify potential hurdles in establishing such an initiative. I am particularly interested in learning about alternative approaches in selecting researchers to be recognized in such an event. We have discussed several criteria that could be used and how to draw information from all colleges, etc. but would very much welcome any insight you can provide.

Thanks in advance,
Arlene
