SPONSORED PROJECTS SPECIALIST/SR. (Office of Sponsored Projects - Grants Team - UTHealth)
Join the UTHealth community located in the Texas Medical Center in Houston. The fast-paced OSP team is responsible for facilitating 1,000 projects resulting in over $310 million in awards at the University. Contracts team members are responsible for drafting and negotiating the sponsored research agreements, clinical trial agreements, material transfer agreements, subcontracts and other agreements on behalf of the University and its researchers.
POSITION KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Provides oversight and guidance to Principal Investigators (PI) on the development of grant applications.
- Works with departmental staff with the processing of grant applications for deadlines.
- Interprets and communicates to the departments the procedural and policy changes affecting grant applications and awards to ensure compliance with governmental requirements.
- Acts as a liaison between the PIs, the University, and sponsors by providing policy/guideline interpretation, justification, and documentation.
- Reviews budgets and coordinates account setup with the Post-Award Finance team.
-Analyze proposed grants and awards for special conditions and/or restrictions, and establishes controls as needed to ensure full compliance.
NOTE: In addition to the accountabilities listed above the
Senior Sponsored Projects Specialist will:
- Assist departmental staff with the processing of grant applications for deadlines of a complex nature.
- Provide mentoring to departmental staff.
-Facilitate the assignment of proposals to affiliate team.
REQUIREMENTS:
Position may be filled at either of the two levels listed below depending on candidates qualifications and skillset
Sponsored Projects Specialist:
Bachelor's degree or relevant work experience in lieu of education AND Two (2) years of experience.
OR
Sr. Sponsored Projects Specialist:
Bachelor's degree or relevant work experience in lieu of education AND Five (5) years of experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
-Bachelor Degree preferably in business or public administration
-Certified Research Administrator (CRA) Preferred Effective communication and negotiation skills as well as database and spreadsheet skills is required.
