November 17-18 Conference Opportunity Dr. Edward Gabriele 14 Aug 2011 08:13 EST

Colleagues,

A special conference on community health and wellness is being planned in the DC area on November 17-18 of this year.

The conference is being entitled,

"Taking Charge of Our Health" --- Community Engagement and Health Empowerment: Strategies for Success

The conference is sponsored by the Summit Health Institute for Research and Education (SHIRE). It will be held at the Kellogg Conference Hotel,
Gallaudet University. There will be a modest registration fee.

The following is an overview of the conference:

"Summit Health Institute for Research and Education, Inc. (SHIRE) has demonstrated the critical importance of community engagement in its policy and programmatic efforts to advance health and wellness in the District of Columbia and the nation. This conference provides a forum for SHIRE and its partners to share lessons learned and strategies that work to help individuals and communities “take charge of their health.” This one-day interactive conference will offer tools that individuals, organizations, corporations, foundations and government agencies can use to create meaningful partnerships in their communities."

Agenda specifics remain in progress but are nearing finalization.

SHIRE has been the recipient of federal awards and has demonstrated itself as a vibrant leader in community health, especially the exploration of factors in health disparities. Previous efforts have provided in-depth explorations concerning ethics issues in healthcare research.

If interested and for the detailed agenda, please contact Shire Leadership at (202) 371-0277 or via: xxxxxx@shireinc.org.

Information about SHIRE itself can be found at: http://www.shireinc.org/.

Please feel free to pass on this information to others.
