All,
We are looking at how we currently handle sick leave on sponsored
projects. At this time we do not have a Short Term Disability (STD)
program and we have historically handled sick leave for grant/soft
funded employees in our fringe benefit rate. The value of the average
sick leave usage is included in our fringe rate and the fringe rate is
charged to the sponsored projects. We do not directly charge sick leave
to the sponsored projects via the payroll process.
I would appreciate any input or guidance anyone can give me with your
experience direct charging sick leave to sponsored projects. In your
response it would be helpful if you indicated whether or not your
institution has a STD program or if you don't have STD what is your
institution's sick leave accrual policy.
