Director of Grants and Sponsored Programs
Loyola University New Orleans is currently seeking a Director of Grants and Sponsored Programs. This position is responsible for organizing and directing the University’s sponsored programs and research activities. The Director will plan and oversee reorganization and anticipated growth of the Office; create and foster an environment of support for the university research community; be responsible for the development and planning of extramurally supported programs and will facilitate faculty and staff in obtaining external grant support for research and university programs; and work with the Provost on a variety of strategic plan initiatives including enhancement of faculty-student undergraduate research. Other responsibilities include maintaining a faculty/staff database on research and programming interests, identifying potential funding sources, assisting faculty and staff in the development of grant proposals, reviewing of all extramural grant applications including budget preparation, and overseeing related intramural funding programs. The Director guides the internal clearance of proposals and ensures that each project awarded is consistent with University and sponsor policies. He/she also provides direction to the staff, ensuring that the Office's mission is pursued effectively. The Director reports to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of seven years of relevant experience; demonstrated ability to interact with governmental agencies, private foundations, businesses, and other community organizations; successful experience in planning and administration; administrative experience in a substantial sponsored programs setting with broad university-wide, multi-discipline experience in Federal, State, and local contract and grant policies, procedures, terms, and conditions; extensive knowledge of electronic research administration systems; experience in subcontract preparation, negotiation, and monitoring; working knowledge of OMB Circulars (A-21, A-110 A-133) and the Code of Federal Regulations; demonstrated capacity to work in a university setting and with diverse communities with specific experience in working effectively with university offices of general counsel, finance, and institutional advancement; strong written and verbal communications skills; evident attention to detail; and strong interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit and be able to work with and encourage faculty in their efforts to find funding to support their teaching, research and creative activities.
