This position will manage financial activities involving both non-sponsored and sponsored federal and non-federal grants, contracts, and agreement in the research/academic Department of Chemistry. Provide high level financial and administrative support to faculty. Includes proposal preparation and submission, award set up, account monitoring, financial reporting, and close out. High level involvement in the management of core facility financial activities. Senior team member on various project teams at the department/divisional; central level. The primary duties and responsibilities of the job:
Sponsored Projects. • Develop and prepare financial reports for forecasting and results analysis for selected faculty and the department • Advise faculty and staff on changes in sponsored research policies • Submit and coordinate submission of grant proposals ensuring that all applicable direct and indirect cost rates have been applied. Confirms that anticipated promotions and other increases are calculated into the cost of project. Ensure compliance with agency guidelines. Submit electronically through various web based systems such as grants.gov • Responsible for coordination of large grant proposals, reviewing and approving all sponsored budgets, budget justifications, and other required administrative data • Verify compliance with sponsoring organizations’ guidelines, as well as with relevant University policies and procedures. Assist Principal Investigators in completion of required information • Verify faculty compliance with institutional IRB, ERS, etc •Responsible for tracking proposals and other documentation through signature/approval processes.
Financial. • Facilitate corrections to accounts in question working with departmental Sponsored Projects Office, Research Accounting, Cost Analysis, and outside agencies. Assist with the analysis of programs, including fiscal performance, the product of which is incorporated into short and long range financial, operational and strategic planning. • Analyze individual and divisional faculty funding for review by the directors of the programs. This will include active and pending award totals in addition to current balances in pertinent non-sponsored accounts. • Meet on a regular basis with assigned faculty to preset complex/comprehensive financial analysis and projections to ensure balanced accounts. Recommend and implement changes to ensure balanced accounts. When necessary, resolve funding overages • Submit electronic budget changes and expenditure transfers. Prepare electronic forms such as payroll, journal vouchers, check deposits, check requests, and purchase orders • Leadership role in the management/oversight of department's cored facility web-based database application used to procure time/services/materials including billing and receivable monitoring for several facilities and department stockroom servicing internal and external customers.
Administrative.• Assure regulatory compliance by assigned faculty and their research groups. • Maintain personnel files • Process payroll-related documents • Responsible for visa application and renewal process for non-citizens.

Posted Qualifications:    Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field required. Three years progressively responsible experience in a financial and/or administrative positions is required. To the extent permitted by the JHU Equivalency Formula: additional related experience may substitute for some education; additional graduate level education may substitute for some experience.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
Intermediate to advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite required. Mastery of Coeus and HopkinsOne SAP systems strongly preferred. Excellent oral and communication skills. Must have the ability to handle confidential information. Must have attention to detail while managing multiple projects in a dynamic fast paced environment, making independent judgments and the discernment to know when such independence is warranted. Must be able to work as part of an effective team.
Physical requirements for the job: •Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time. • Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard. • Communication skills using the spoken word. •Ability to see within normal parameters. • Ability to hear within normal range. • Ability to move about.
Posted Preferred Qualifications:    Experience in an academic or medical setting. Strong working knowledge of federal and non federal sponsor projects policies.
