SPECIAL PROJECTS ACCOUNTANT (Accountant III) - Office of Sponsored Programs

Salary:             $3,829.00+ Monthly - Commensurate with experience
Closing Date:   Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until position is filled

DUTIES:

*         Performs advanced professional accounting system work, with primary responsibility for daily maintenance of SAP Grants Master Data and training for SAP Grants Management module.

*         Responsible for effort reporting data collection and compliance.

*         Researches advanced problems and performs advanced review of financial data and reports, with recommendations for solutions.

*         Provide technical support for principal investigators, funding sources and University administrative offices in the management of externally funded grants and contracts.

*         Responsible for account receivables and follow-up with delinquent sponsors.

*         Plans and implements new policies and procedures.

*         Plans and implements compliance activities.

*         Reports directly to the Associate Director of Sponsored Programs; receives minimal supervision.

*         Responsible for ensuring compliance with grant and contract requirements on state, federal and private grants and contracts.

*         Provides technical support for principal investigators, funding sources and University administrative offices in the management of externally funded grants and contracts.

*         Guides the management of project financial activities.

*         Keeps and reconciles financial records.

*         Participates in site visits and audits.

*         Conduct training for university staff regarding federal and state regulations and university policy and procedures.

*         Interpret financial systems, responsible for contract and budget analysis, and audit grants to ensure that guidelines are adhered to.

*         Operate and analyze programs on a PC and mainframe system.

Required:

 *   Bachelor's degree in Business or Accounting related field.
 *   Knowledge of federal and state grants management regulations and policies (including OMB circulars and UGMS).
 *   Skill in maintaining financial master data in an ERP software system.
 *   Knowledge of federal and state requirements for effort-reporting.
 *   Skill in monitoring, reconciling, and collecting accounts receivable.
 *   Knowledge of NACUBO standards for university financial records.
 *   Ability to develop materials and conduct training sessions.
 *   Ability to establish rules, policies, and procedures.
 *   Skill in reading and interpreting laws and regulations for compliance.
 *   Skill in developing written policies and procedures.
 *   Experience in serving on committees and teams.
 *   Work experience in a financial area (accounting, auditing, budgeting).

Preferred:

 *   Experience with the financial and grant modules of an SAP software system.
 *   Skill in maintaining Grants Master Data in an ERP software system.
 *   Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, particularly grants.
 *   Knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards Board policies, particularly related to grants.
 *   Interpersonal skills
 *   Strong verbal and written communication skills (applicants selected for interview may be required to prepare a writing sample and/or prove accounting knowledge).
 *   Ability to interact with both internal and external auditors.
 *   Three years' work experience in a grants-related area (post-award grants administration or auditing of grants).

Some evening and week-end hours are necessary, with significant amounts during August through September for year-end close and beginning of the new fiscal year.  This is a security sensitive position and a criminal history check will be performed on the selected candidate.
